Course Overview

Organizational behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structures have on behavior within the organization. This impact works towards improving the organization’s effectiveness. Of all the resources, human resources are precious and the behaviour of human being is unpredictable, thus unique in nature. As such an understanding of their interaction in Organizations is necessary, for the purpose of integrating human effort towards realisation of goals. In order to understand human behaviour, a specified field of faculty of knowledge is being developed. It is called organizational Behaviour (OB). The module also discusses the aftermath of COVID-19 and its implication on organizations and their strategies. Organizations globally are experiencing workforce disruption at an unprecedented scale and speed. Virtually all companies are still determining how they will work in the short- and long-term. But speed is of the essence, as workforces and communities try to function and perform, while struggling to cope with what is happening in their daily lives following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Course Objective

This module aims to provide students with core knowledge about behaviours of individuals and groups within organizational settings. Students are also expected to acquire analytical competencies to explain, to predict and to influence organizational behaviour in order to improve organizational effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes

1. Know and understand the fundamental concepts related to organizational behaviour. 2. Understand, analyse and predict individuals’ behaviour from a knowledge of personality, perception and decision making. 3. Describe and evaluate the learning process of individuals and teams within organizations. 4. Compare and contrast between theories of motivation. 5. Analyse the role of effective communication in organizations. 6. Display critical thinking and problem solving skills; 7. Gain, evaluate and synthesise information and existing knowledge from a number of sources and experiences; 8. In a team, work effectively to prepare a professional, logical and coherent report on marketing issues within a specific context
