28th December 2022, Karachi, Greenwich University Model United Nations (GUMUN) 2022 focuses on the five Ps of sustainable development People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership. Delegations from Kiran Foundation, The Citizen's Foundation (TCF), Wynwood College, Future Diplomat Model United Nations (FDMUN), and multiple schools and colleges joined the GUMUN at its Opening Ceremony. GUMUN hosts Disarmament & International Security Committee (DISEC), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Economic & Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Pakistan National Assembly (PNA), CRISIS Committee and Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Issues Committee (SOCHUM). Student Provost Mr. Naveed Mughal welcomed the MUN participants and said that MUNs serve as an essential academic platform through which students learn about real-world issues and develop skills in debate, diplomacy, compromise, and decision-making. He also mentioned that keeping sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the heart of this conference and all initiatives is Greenwich University's step towards a prosperous future for Pakistan. Introducing the agenda and committees, the Head of the School of Diplomacy, Mr. Ali Jillani, said that as an educational institution, Greenwich University aims to produce well-rounded individuals, and GUMUN is an initiative hugely contributing to our vision. He noted that the MUN focuses on real-world issues plaguing humanity. These issues did not spearhead naturally but are a consequence of weak policies. At GUMUN, the delegates will engage with environmental, gender parity, global economic crisis, refugee, and displacement issues, among others; GUMUN aims at raising awareness and instilling the sense of responsibility needed to deal with multiple global problems, he said. Committee agendas, reading material, and MUN toolkits were provided to all participants at the registration desks. The committee debriefing sessions began with students discussing the committee mandates and understanding the rules and procedures of the house. The day concluded with Bonfire & Unplugged Night, at which Greenwich University students performed beautiful renditions.
